I have often worked on the process of “letting go” and have found it MUCH EASIER SAID THAN DONE.
Then I learned that there is a way to jump-start the “letting go” process by shifting things in your external world (environment) so that you can then shift things in your inner world.
Enter the power of clutter clearing.
Before I go any further with this post, I want to give full credit for this concept/idea to Marci Shimoff & Debra Poneman. They taught me this specific process about letting go, creating more space in your life, and then filling it up with beautiful colors.
Here are the “rules”:
- Get rid of things that no longer serve you or speak to you. Here is the nine-day process.
- Resolve and complete unresolved items (complete one each week until you’re done)
- Clear out your emotional clutter (key for most is that we must practice forgiveness). Marci and Deb talked about an amazing Hawaiian forgiveness ritual that can easily be summarized as: I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you. I love you.
Once you’ve “let go” and created space, you can fill it up with new things that you love!
Deb and Marci suggest following some color guidelines to make sure your space is well-balanced.
Via a masterclass with Dougall Fraser, we learned more about the power of color. (Read more about Dougall below).
Here are some cool insights on colors according to Dougall:
Green- more creativity
Gold- to attract more professional independence
Pink- unconditional love, perfection
White- clarity and spirituality
Turquoise- forgiveness (angelic)
Orange- balance and perception (grounded intuition)
Mint green- full of life (fresh, clean, electric energy)
Emerald green- communication
Purple- leadership and destiny
Red- feeling, empathy, compassion
Rose- open space
Blue- truth, and wisdom
Black- retreat/keep one’s energy to one’s self
