Thank you so much to Wow Projects (Wow Students) and Hailey Elementary school for an amazing project with the kids that involved book reading, trying new fruits and veggies, and learning that a healthy edible rainbow comes from plants.
The kids learned to eat a rainbow (of healthy fruits and veggies).
The project provided books for the children and raised money for nonprofit Nurture's work in the community to help children and families eat healthier.
Each child received a free copy of of the book Give It a Go, Eat a Rainbow. Each classroom also received a copy of the sequel, Where Does a Rainbow Grow?
The kids also planted seeds that will be donated as plants to the Hope Garden to feed families in need.
Here are the kids putting water on the seeds planted in a growing medium that expands when the water is added.
Here the growing medium has started to expand. The kids will push the seeds down a bit into the soil. The trays will be covered and put in a dark, warm area until the seeds germinate (3-7) days while being kept very moist. Then the trays can be moved into the light so the seedlings can start to grow! 🙂
