I had a great time dusting off the china for Governor Edgar during my Michael Curry internship in the summer of 1991. Ximena and I were thrilled to meet the Governor along with the other interns.
Ximena and I got a lot out of our work in the cultural affairs office, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have built our foundation. From Chapter Two of Mountain Mantras.
Just so that no one assumes I belong to either political party, I will note that I also worked for a Democrat, former President Jimmy Carter. I had the honor of working for him at the Carter Center of Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 1992. My work? To assist the Latin American Policy department on free trade and the spread of democracy.

I am a huge fan of the work of many of our First Ladies. What Michelle Obama has done for my field of nutrition has been exceptionally phenomenal. My daughter, Elena, and I were honored to meet the First Lady in the summer of 2011.
