What an honor to be interviewed by John Lee Dumas about the Freedom Journal and how it can help you to meet your top goals in life.
You won’t want to miss our conversation where I talk about
*Focus
*Discipline
*Productivity
I also share with you my story about how I achieved up to 250% of goal on my SMART goals related to a book launch as well as a podcast launch.
I quote the best advice I’ve ever received –
“Focus on what you can control and stop complaining about what you can’t control”
I also share with you one of my favorite Chinese proverbs that might change how you view your own freedom in life.
When there is light in the soul, there is beauty in the person.
When there is beauty in the person, there is harmony in the house.
When there is harmony in the house, there is order in the nation.
When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.

I offer a gift to fire nation, and you can download that resource (as well as many more HERE). The Mountain Mantras resource is listed under “Wellness” (the entire book is up there now!).
In the interview with JLD, we talk about how YOU can get a ton done while still enjoying time in nature and making time for health and wellness.
Here are the three key points from our interview:
- The world today allows more geographic independence than ever before – take advantage of that freedom.
- Set your own metrics where you can measure how far or near you are to accomplishing your goals.
- Begin with the end in mind – envision what you want in the future and work towards that goal.
The Freedom journal talks about productivity, discipline, and focus. To hone your focus:
- Ask yourself: “Where am I headed?” Ask this question every day. Be clear about your destination.
- Each day, week, month and year, set goals. These goals serve as your compass, helping you prioritize (so that you can realize).
- Filter out the distractions; you know what I’m talking about! Close the door, turn off the phone, close your email. Then you can be efficient.
More about my journey from Chicago to Sun Valley:
When our kids were quite young, we were living in Chicago and trying to juggle work and family – unsuccessfully.
I was feeling like life was in the fast lane and that I could never keep up. Be a good mom? Make a living? Sustain great relationships? Stay healthy? Yikes.
We lived in a large but excellent school district; parents had high expectations of their kids, and kids were under constant pressure to get ahead. The competition started when the kids were toddlers, with parents signing their kids up for private golf coaches in the hopes that they would make the team in high school. Of course, all this was aimed at getting them into an Ivy League school and then on to Wall Street or some big law firm.
One day my husband and I went to a movie called “The Race to Nowhere,” which is about the relentless, high expectations of our children, which can lead to serious medical conditions. Fourth graders were interviewed and discussed their ulcers and countless hours of homework.
I broke into tears at the end when I learned that the film was dedicated to a young girl who had taken her life as a result of the constant pressures she felt.
Not long after watching that film, we decided to turn a struggle into fun by packing up our kids and pets and some of our belongings and move out West to shake things up a little. We ended up in Sun Valley, Idaho. Here I remind myself to integrate just a little FUN into EVERY day, no matter how much work, chores, to-dos or just life-crap I have to put up with!?
And by the way, I had to learn how to SKI!
