E077: Create Your Own Reality with Brainspotting and More (Cynthia Schwartzberg)

In this episode, we continue our exploration of the application of the Brainspotting modality.  Our guest, Cynthia Schwartzberg, discusses the history of Brainspotting and how she discovered it through her work in Core Energetics.

Brainspotting is a modality discovered by Dr. David Grand. Please visit www.brainspotting.com to learn more.

Here are the seven mantras from this episode:

Mantra #1:  There is something special about the eyes when it comes to brain-body connection and healing. (See below for more information about how the eyes are part of the central nervous system, developing from the neural tube in the human fetus in utero).

Mantra #2:  Relationships create the foundations of healing.

Mantra #3: We can create our own reality (Brainspotting provides opportunities to separate the past from the present and future).

Mantra #4: Brainspotting can assist with self-acceptance (a key element in creating our optimal reality).

Mantra #5: Brainspotting can also assist us in discovering talents.

Mantra #6: Uncertainty is key to allowing “ah-ha” moments to arise.

Mantra #7:  Everything is energy.

Cynthia also provided listeners with a great “recipe” for creating your best reality (to great for the new year!).
-Set an intention
-Know its possible
-Create awareness of obstacles (what might be in the way, including limiting beliefs)

-Use methodologies such as Brainspotting to remove obstacles

Love it!

Notes about Mantra #1
I want to give credit here to Dr. Peggy Mason, Ph.D.  I am taking her course at the University of Chicago called Understanding the Brain: The Neurobiology of Everyday Life.

In one of the recent lessons, Dr. Mason explained how the neural tube creates the entire central nervous system from the spinal cord to the brain. At about three weeks of age of the fetus, the neural tube is in a vesicular stage when it is differentiating into the spinal cord, the hindbrain, the midbrain, and the forebrain.

The forebrain then differentiates into two vesicles called the diencephalon and the telencephalon. The diencephalon becomes the thalamus and the hypothalamus. The telencephalon becomes the cerebral cortex, the core parts of the basal ganglia, the amygdala, and a few other structures.

The diencephalon, which ends up inside telencephalon as the cerebral cortex grows, has an outpouching that becomes the optic nerve and the retina.

Here I’m going to quote Dr. Mason:
“Why is that amazing? Because what you have is an accessible piece of the central nervous system. This is the central nervous system, it comes from the diencephalon, it is continuous with the diencephalon. Here’s the diencephalon, and here’s the optic nerve, here’s the retina. It’s all contains within the same meninges. It’s all surrounded by CSF. So it’s one that means that when you look into somebody’s eye you’re looking into the central nervous system. You’re not looking to the brain. But it’s a window on the brain…”

Cool.
