Green Machine

I’m always trying to get my family to eat more raw vegetables!  I find one of the easiest ways to up my veggie count is to start off the day with one full cup of spinach (organic).

How do I do this?  I make one mean green machine!

A green machine is a fruit and veggie smoothie.

Selling this idea to your kids may be a bit of challenge, so here are a few kid-friendly names:
– ogre juice
– swamp juice
– leprechaun lemonade
– Shrek shake

This smoothie is packed with nutrients (potassium, folate, vitamin  A and C).

Ingredients:

– ½ Banana

– 1-2 T. Lemon Juice

– 1 cup of washed spinach

– 2 t. honey

– 3-4 oz of water

Directions:

Place all the ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth.   You can add a few ice cubes if you like your green juice extra cold.

Feel free to get creative, you can swap out any fruit such as frozen blueberries,  strawberries or mangos.  Also, if the lemon juice is too tart try a splash of orange or apple juice.

If you’re reading this and thinking, “there is no way my kid would ever drink that!”, take note: my two and a half ear old niece loves ‘gween’ juice and asks for it almost every day (she prefers a splash of apple juice rather than lemon juice)!

Cheers to good health!
